The first week I lived in China, while being both highly stimulating and exciting, was also the hardest. I thought that having studied abroad three years prior made me automatically ready for the move. I was wrong.

Empathy is the cure to a broken world. A cure that can be achieved in a multitude of diverse and beautiful ways.

But it can begin quite simply….

Only if we’re open to it.

I now sit back in my home country with a shift in perspective and a strong pounding in my head crying, “Why?!”

Why is it so hard for humans to see other humans for what they are.
